Oppenheimer
2023 · Christopher Nolan
Watched on November 20, 2025
Nolan's most mature film, and arguably his best. This isn't about spectacle (though the Trinity test sequence is spectacular)-it's about the weight of consequence.
Cillian Murphy disappears into Oppenheimer completely. Those haunted eyes carry the entire film. You watch him realize, in real-time, what he's done.
The structure-intercutting between three timelines, two in color, one in black and white-could have been gimmicky. Instead, it illuminates how history judges differently in the moment versus in retrospect.
The three-hour runtime flew by. I was exhausted by the end, but in the way you're exhausted after reading a great book-depleted but satisfied.
